Films worthy of your time

Hello Again,

Whenever people talk great movies, they're usually speaking of about 10-15 films that just about everyone's seen. There are many great movies that just missed by a smidgen of being considered masterpieces, for whatever reasons. They are great in their own right, and don't deserve to be forgotten. If you haven't seen any of the listed films, you are in for a treat.
This list is, of course, incomplete, but a representative listing of underrated movies.
I have listed films by title, year, and principle stars. Some years may be approximate.

Reindeer Games (2000), Ben Affleck, Charlize Theron.....The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravatz (1974), Richard Dreyfuss, Jack Warden.....The Ox Bow Incident (1943), Henry Fonda, Dana Andrews.....Patterns (1956), Van Heflin, Written by Rod Serling.....The Sterile Cuckoo (1969), Liza Minelli.....Night and the City (1950), Richard Widmark, Gene Tierney.....Lifeguard (1976), Sam Elliot, Anne Archer, Kathleen Quinlan.....Carmen Jones, (1954), Dorothy Dandridge, Harry Belafonte.....The Sullivans, aka The Fighting Sullivans (1944), Thomas Mitchell, Anne Baxter.....Ed Wood (1994), Johnny Depp, Martin Landau.....Monkey Business (1931), The Marx Brothers.....The Producers (1968), Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder.....The Third Man (1948), Joseph Cotten, Orson Welles.....The King of Comedy (1983), Robert De Niro, Jerry Lewis.....Run, Lola, Run (1998), Franka Potente.....A Raisin in the Sun (1961), Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee.....Never Give a Sucker an Even Break (1945), W.C. Fields (his last).....The Long, Gray Line (1955), Tyrone Power, Maureen O'Hara.....Monterey Pop (1968), Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, The Who.....Duel (1971), Dennis Weaver, Steven Spielberg's first film.....Come Back to the 5 and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean (1982), Sandy Dennis, Cher, Karen Black, Kathy Bates.....The Bad and the Beautiful (1954), Kirk Douglas, Lana Turner.....Voices (1979), Michael Ontkean, Amy Irving (this one made me cry, the story is so beautiful!).....Stormy Weather (1943), Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Lena Horne, Cab Calloway.....The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1968), Alexis Smith.....In Cold Blood (1967), Scott Wilson, Robert Blake, John Forsythe.....Blackboard Jungle (1955), Glenn Ford, Sidney Poitier.....Georgy Girl (1966), Lynn Redgrave, James Mason, Charlotte Rampling.....Casino (1995), Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone.....Alice's Restaurant (1969), Arlo Guthrie, Patricia Quinn, James Broderick (Matthew's father).....Invaders From Mars (1953), Arthur Franz, Helena Carter.....Soldier in the Rain (1963), Steve McQueen, Jackie Gleason.....What About Bob? (1991), Bill Murray, Richard Dreyfuss.

I could have gone on and on. If you've seen any of these films, I hope I've brought back pleasant memories. If you haven't, please consider these friendly recommendations. I'm sure everyone has a list like this. This was mine, and I hope you found it interesting.

Thanks for reading, As Always, Anne Alogy

'soldier in the rain' is a truly great, truly undervalued film.   gleason was an incredible talent as was mcqueen.

(as i was typing that i was reminding myself, 'jeez you just gave that one the kiss of death.  remember you were the one who went hysterical during a screening of 'the couch trip' and proclaimed it the funniest flick youd seen all year)

*King, if Jackie Gleason had had more Soldier in the Rains & Requiem For a Heavyweights and fewer Gigots & Skidoos, he would have been considered one of the all-time movie greats and not just a great TV star. Let's also forget The Sting II!

The Couch Trip was good, but mainly because of Walter Matthau. Ackroyd's good, but he had too many Dr. Detroits & Exit to Edens. (who's bright idea was it to put Rosie O'Donnell in a leather teddy, anyway?) Also, at least one too many Blues Brothers.
What About Bob? is a rarity in that for me, at least, it gets funnier with each viewing.

Love Movies Anyway, Anne

*King, Walter & Jack are sooo missed! We'll never see their likes ever again, and that makes me sad. --Anne
